Class Blogs So Far...
I am less than impressed with the standard of effort shown so far in your blogs.
You will not get any benefit out of this unless you put some effort into it.
This is a CLASS REQUIREMENT for you to keep up-to-date.
Parent's Evening is approaching...
Target Setting
We looked at the different Module results you already have, and talked about what you could be aiming for.
You were to have these completed for homework.
We also discussed the misunderstanding regarding last week's work.
You told me you have worked through ch 4.6 and completed some of the Normalisation questions.
Tomorrow we will continue working on your Website & DB coursework.

VWD Practice Task (1)
Look through the database to get an idea what the company does / sells etc.
Part 1) Create a 3 page website, with suitable colour scheme & logo for this company.
Your site should not look like something a 1st year could do.
It should look like a real 'business' website.
Part 2) You must also blog screenshots of how you created the website, explaining how each part of the site was made.

Beginning Visual Web Developer
I showed you an example of a database driven website, which allowed you to view / edit / delete records dynamically i.e. working with the real 'live' data in the database.
We then looked at the Visual Web Developer (VWD from now on!) interface and we created a simple 3 page website using the following features:
- Headings
- Text (paragraph tag)
- Table (with merged cells)
- Image
- Font Colour
- Hyperlinks
We saw how the web page is made up of tags that tell the browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox) how to display the text.
We also saw how the VWD IDE (integrated development environment) allows you to view / edit the html code, or use a WYSIWYG (What-you-see-is-what-you-get) visual designer.
We will learn a bit more about web page design with this package before we add in some extra database functionality.

Waterfall & Prototype Methods
One diagram of the Waterfall Method, the other a diagram of the Prototyping Method.
You were to create two new posts on your blog explaining these methods and including the diagrams you made (save diagram as .xcf format to preserve layer information, then export it as .jpg to upload to the blog).
HW: 400 words in your hardbacked book on how your database from last year could be used through the web.

Organising your Area
- My Documents
-- A2 ICT
--- Module 4
--- Module 5
--- Module 6
Take a screenshot showing the all the folders, save it as a jpeg and upload the image to your blog.
Let's get the ball rolling...
1) By the end of this double you *MUST* have logged into your blog from last year again and added a new post to it, summarising the letter you wrote earlier this week.
When setting up the blog you were asked to use your c2k or a0 number, and to register your C2K email address. So if you have forgotten the password you should be able to retrieve it or get it reset.
You should add in a link to my blog along the side of yours.
If all else fails and you have to set up another google / blogger account, leave the new address in a comment to this post.
2) You already have work to do for next Monday (summary of Waterfall and Prototype models - 4.4).
There will be a short class test on these topics on Monday, so ensure you have the work done.
Tuesday, 4 September 2007
Welcome!
Today you have been introduced to the class blog which we will use instead of the wiki we had last year.
You will access the blog you created last year and use this regularly over the coming months to document your coursework progress.
More later (when you all get online!)
